Euthanasia is commonly referred to as “putting down” or “putting to sleep”. This is a very hard decision many pet owners must make at the last stage of their pet’s life.

Here at Lone Tree Animal Care, we treat every pet as if they were part of our own family. Losing a pet is like losing a member of the family. We understand that this process can be a difficult time for our clients, so we offer services to help make this transition a little bit easier. We help prepare families by explaining the process of ending their pet’s suffering in a timely, comfortable, and respective manner. We offer in-office euthanasia, cremation, and grief counseling services and also give families the option to be in the room during the process. Dealing with the end of a pet’s life is never easy. We want to make the process less difficult for you by offering cremation services as a way to memorialize and honor the life of your beloved pet. Please consult our team to learn more about your pet’s end of life transitional options, so we can determine the most humane and appropriate end of life care. If you have special requests, please let us know and we will be sure to accommodate them.

Why euthanasia?

Just as we all age, so do our beloved pets. As much as we would love for all of our pets to be in our lives forever, there comes a time to say goodbye. Euthanasia offers a peaceful, controlled option for the end of our pet’s life. Based on your pet’s quality of life, euthanasia may be something to consider.

When is the time right?

Knowing when the time is right can be a difficult choice. There are many factors that go into deciding to euthanize an animal, and it is a personal issue that differs from pet owner to pet owner. Your top concern should be about your pet’s quality of life, difficulties that come with old age, and the pain they may be suffering. Cremation can be a wonderful and flexible way to celebrate and memorialise the life of an animal. Cremated remains can be buried, kept in an indoor or outdoor urn, or commemorated in jewellery or keepsake items.

What should I expect?

Our euthanasia process is designed to be as peaceful as possible. Once you and the doctor have determined that this is the best choice, your pet will have a drug administered that results in deep sedation. During the time it takes to reach this state, you and your family remain with your pet. It is a quiet few minutes of saying goodbye. Many people choose to leave at this point, having bid their pet farewell, taking comfort in knowing it was calm and pain free.

How should I get more information or ask for help?

Our veterinarians are available to discuss your options. They are very familiar with the experience, and are able to talk about the process and the feelings that come with it. Please make an appointment or contact us for information on options, timelines, and references for support through the grieving process.

Euthanasia Services

Saying goodbye to your pet can be extremely difficult, and the process can be emotionally and mentally draining. We don’t want you to be alone at the end stages of a pet’s life, and we promise to do everything we can to make it easier on you and your pet. Most of all, we promise to treat each case with compassionate and understanding care.

Cremation Services

Cremation is also an option at Lone Tree Animal Care. This can help you memorialize your pet so that you can remember and cherish them forever. After the process is completed, our team will help you decide on an urn that best suits their pet. Whether your desire is for a home burial or cremation, we can eliminate much of the stress and help make sure that everything goes smoothly. As part of our end of life services, we create a commemorative paw print with your pet’s name.

  • Private Cremation – A private cremation is when only one pet is present during the cremation process. Your pet will be identified with a stainless-steel ID tag and their cremains to be returned to you in our hospital
  • Communal Cremation – A communal cremation is when more than one pet is present. Your pet’s cremains will not be returned, but you do have the option of a clay paw print to memorialize your pet.

Please call our office to learn more about how you can customise your pet’s cremation.

Grief Counselling

After your pet has passed, we do offer some grief counselling to help pet owners get through this difficult time. Our team can provide you with helpful resources to help transition you through this mourning process.
