Soft tissue surgery is any surgery non-joint or bone related, and can include ear, nose and throat, cardio-thoracic, hepatic, gastrointestinal, urogenital, skin reconstructive and oncological surgeries. If soft tissue surgery is recommended for your pet, we will do everything possible to keep them safe and comfortable before, during, and after the surgery. . Prior to surgery, your pet’s blood work will be analyzed for underlying liver, kidney and platelet profiles to insure no unknown disease exists. Your pet is anesthetized by our trained staff and monitored by a veterinarian at all times. Post-surgery treatment may include pain medication to insure your pet is as comfortable as possible. After your pet has been monitored, they will be released back to you better than new! We perform many types of soft tissue surgeries at our clinic. Soft tissue surgeries are those that are not associated with bone. These surgeries can provide many benefits to pets.

Please contact us if you’d like to discuss how soft tissue surgery might be able to help your pet.

Surgical protocols at our clinic include:

Pre-surgical assessments. We will confirm the specifics of the procedure, complete a physical examination of the patient, and make sure blood tests have been completed and reviewed by the vet in order to determine if your pet faces any risk of anesthesia-related complications.

Dedicated surgical suites. Surgeries are performed in a dedicated surgical suite. This room is kept completely sterile to prevent infection and cross-contamination.

Surgical attire. Our staff members wear disposable caps and masks at all times when they are in the surgical suite. Those involved in the procedure itself will also wear sterile gowns and single-use gloves.

Sterile packs and equipment. We carefully clean, sterilize and wrap our surgical instruments and equipment prior to every surgery.

Why would my pet need soft tissue surgery?

This gives us permission to sedate your pet for any procedure that requires anesthesia.  At the time of drop off for the procedure let us know the history and current state of your pet’s health. Surgery is often a necessary part of excellent medical care for your pet. We understand that this can be an anxious time for both you and your furry family member. From routine surgeries like spays and neuters, to more advanced orthopaedic or abdominal procedures, your doctor will work closely with you to determine the correct course of action. This may include having the procedure done in-house by one of our Veterinarians  or we may bring in a board-certified surgeon for more advanced procedures. In some cases, the best option for your pet may be referral to a specialty surgery centre. Your doctor will work with you through this entire process to ensure continuity of care.

Throughout all procedures, a trained veterinary technician will be dedicated to monitoring your pet’s blood pressure, oxygenation, and heart rate using state-of-the-art technology to ensure that the anaesthesia is as safe and complication-free as possible.

What can I expect for my pets if they are facing surgery?

Before any procedure, our caring veterinarians recommend running blood work on each patient; the results of this testing help determine whether your pet may have an underlying condition that could complicate the surgery. Because our pets feel pain in much the same way as people, pain preventatives are required before any surgical procedure. During the operation, our veterinarians will continually monitor the vital signs of the patient, including heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen levels. Upon conclusion of the surgery, your pet will continue to be monitored until they have recovered enough to safely return home with you.
